GAMEPLAY

You have a deck of cards and hold three cards in your hand at a time.

Each turn, you can play one card, which uses it and discards it, or you can throw all three cards, which does 1 damage per card and discards them.

When you run out of cards, you miss a turn to reshuffle the discarded cards back into your deck.

Additionally, you can type 'i' after the number of the attack (e.g. 2i) to view the attack description.

You start with a deck of 6 cards (3 Sword Slashes, 2 Shields and a Flex) and the Small Shield relic.

Sword Slash: Deals 4 damage.

Shield: Gain 5 block.

Flex: Gain 2 strength.

Small Shield: Start each battle with 5 block. This increases by 5 each layer.

STRUCTURE

Each layer is composed of 6 floors.

Floor 1: Fight

Floor 2: Fight->Event

Floor 3: Fight/Elite

Floor 4: Fight->Event

Floor 5: Fight

Floor 6: Shop->Boss

This pattern repeats for the next layer.

After layer 2, the game is unfinished- essentially endless mode

Beating the Elite gives you an additional choice of 1 of 3 common relics as well as the regular card selection.

Beating the Boss gives you a full heal, a choice of 1 of 3 rare cards and a choice of 1 of 3 rare relics.

After every fight you gain gold. The more additional damage you do (represented as negative enemy hp) the more gold you gain.

MECHANICS

x Block: Takes damage for you, blocking x amount of incoming damage. Direct damage and self damage ignore block.

x Strength: Increases the damage of each of your attacks by x. (NOTE: for attacks that hit multiple times, this is applied for each hit.)

x Dexterity: Increases the block you gain each time you block by x.

x Fury: Repeats the next card used x times. Fury is exhausted when used.

x Armour: Reduces all damage you take by x. Direct damage ignores armour, but self damage does not.

x Vulnerable: Takes double damage from the next x attacks.

x Wisdom: Increases the Strength, Dexterity and healing you gain by x.

x Thorns: Deals x damage to opponent when taking damage.

x Poison: Deals x direct damage at the end of the turn. Poison decreases by 1 each turn.

The fact that stat buffs can cross over to the next battle is interesting. The entire game is very centered around buffs and status effects. In a good way though, it’s a really simple but unique play style. I feel you can get overpowered easily but it works with how fast the enemy difficulty goes up. You can also totally break the game if that’s your kind of thing. The dialogue for enemies is fun and enjoyable as well. Sometimes the beginning can feel slow and rng has a small chance to just fuck you over in the first fight by giving you cards that don’t kill the slime faster than it can heal. Some aspects are a little too simple like events and such but it’s not.a large problem. Overall it’s a game I’d recommend playing to the end and checking in on updates. Also an incredibly impressive first project.
